Create your Advisors One of the most rewarding aspects of being in business for yourself is the people we meet. Some become trusted advisors. They really get to understand who I am. They are my informal guides to my success. When it comes to operating an entrepreneurial business, where you are alone with your thoughts, having advisors makes all the difference. These folks are raving fans. They come in unexpected ways and from unusual places. They don’t necessarily have to be clients. They could be. They could be family, friends, associates, competitors, neighbours, raving fans and so on. I have found that these relationships naturally grow to be reciprocal. It is a mutual help and advice relationship. Many times I have brilliant ideas that I believe will change my clients’ businesses. Once I have communicated it, I check with an advisor or two. They might ask, “Great idea! How about some fine-tuning?” Bottom line, they are there to help me. They are participating in my business. Exercise: Start to recognize your own group of advisors.
