If it’s working, keep doing it.

Identify the promotions that are working. Which are not? Commit to dropping or changing all of the ways that are not working.

What are the reasons for the ways you promote your business? Many of my clients have discovered that by some minor tweaking they have substantially increased their ROI. The choice is always in your own hands.

Real Example: I was amazed when one of my clients said to me, “After taking your workshop, I realized that I have been doing the right things to build my business. And I didn’t know that taking advice was not always good for me.”

Let me introduce you to Noel St. Laurant of Huronia/Muskoka Defoggers at (705)424-0506. He gets folks to look for foggy windows and fixes them at a fraction of the cost. There were a couple of his stories that have huge impact.

Story One: Noel was driving around in a familiar neighbourhood. He recognized a house that he had defogged years before and saw the owner. He stopped and engaged the owner by asking how the defogged windows were now. The astonished owner said they are fine. He also commented that no one has ever followed up after this many years.

What message do you think that owner talks about? This is the power of Word of Mouth Marketing.

Story Two: Noel was defogging a patio door window. As he started the work the glass exploded in thousands of pieces…not funny. Instead of reacting, he became proactive by ordering new glass at no charge and completing the job. Many businesses point fingers for blame. Noel moved to fix the problem and built new referral business as the result.

Exercise: Make a list of stories about your customer success. Tell them often and relay solid evidence to others to demonstrate the success for you. Carry or place a portfolio in a prominent place so everyone can show folks you make a difference.
